OVERVIEW
Empowering individuals to attain and maintain wellness is at the core of community health education promotion. It is a versatile career path that addresses today's ever-growing need for health awareness and education.
BW's program combines coursework in health behavior management, psychology and biology. You'll learn about nutrition, fitness, exercise, stress management, substance abuse and more.
Through your studies, you'll learn an integrative approach to wellness that focuses on whole-person care and disease prevention. Emphasis will be placed on program design and behavior modification as methods of educating and supporting clients.
A rewarding major, community health education promotion provides the competencies to enable you to work in schools, public and private agencies, worksites, health departments and clinical settings.
A required internship bridges classroom learning with real-world experience. You'll gain valuable networking contacts and resume-enhancing experiences.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
In addition to becoming a health educator, counselor or coach, career opportunities include:
- Worksites: Corporations and businesses hire health educators to assist employees through wellness programs.
- Public Health Agencies: Disease prevention is central to organizations and departments administered by the government to address public health.
- Hospitals and clinics: Health education outreach programs are a vibrant component of these facilities.
- Nonprofit Agencies: The American Cancer Society and American Heart Association are among the many organizations seeking leadership for educational programs.
CURRICULUM
Offered as a major, community health education promotion is a broad-based program. You'll gain insights and motivational techniques for educating and supporting individuals in making positive health choices.

Experiential learning bridges classroom study with real-world opportunities. You can enhance your studies through internships, co-curricular activities and other learning opportunities.
At the annual Honors Ceremony in the spring, recognitions include:
- Bonnie Raye Graduate Scholarship (in honor Bonnie Raye, who taught at BW and was the women's basketball coach, 1980-89).
- Dr. Lee J. Tressel Scholarship (in honor of Dr. Lee Tressel '48, who taught and was BW's football coach, 1957-80).
- Hower-Stover Award (in honor of Dr. Marjorie Hower, who was a professor at BW, 1947-80, and Myrta Stover, who coached and taught at BW, 1943-68).
Choose Ohio First STEM Scholars Program
The BW Choose Ohio First STEM Scholars Program is open to Ohio residents who are entering Baldwin Wallace in the fall as a first-year student or transfer student and are interested in community health education promotion. Students are eligible to apply to the program which also offers the Choose Ohio First scholarship, awarding substantial annual, renewable scholarships.
